Iowa Regional: Day 0

The Journey Begins!
     March 24th, 2016

     Good Morning Everyone!
If you did not know already, we are currently in Iowa right now to compete at the Iowa Regional! We left Cottage Grove at around 5:30 PM and we arrived at our hotel around 11:00 PM yesterday. It was quite a journey to get from "Minnesnowta" to Iowa due to the bad weather conditions, but we are glad that we got here in one piece. Today will mark the start of practice matches so teams (like us) will have the opportunity to finally unbag their robot and test it on the official Stronghold field. These next few days will be very interesting to see what solutions teams came up with for this year's game. Be sure to follow all of our social media for the latest updates from the team!

Weeks 3 & 4

One Day Closer to the Future!
     February 14th, 2016

We are now approaching the end of the build season and projects have really started to
pick up! Each of our sub-teams has accomplished a lot these past weeks!

To start off, the build team finalized the catapult design and attached it to the robot. In addition, the build team redesigned the boulder intake mechanism and they built support beams to attach it to the chassis of the robot. They have also been working hard on the lift mechanism to accomplish the end game aspect of Stronghold. The build team has all of the individual components within their grasp; it will be interesting to see how they are going to combine them to form a cohesive robot.

Now that the programmers has gotten the game plan from the build team, they have been dedicating their efforts to coding multiple autonomous programs. The overall goal for autonomous is to have the robot go through the defenses and launch the boulder into the high goal. As of right now, they have the robot being able to move forward and turn by itself for autonomous, and with teleop they have been focusing on launching the boulder.

These past weeks have been extremely busy and successful for the outreach team. They turned in both the Chairman's Award and the Woodie Flowers Award on February 4th! A big weight has been lifted off their shoulders, but there is still a lot to do. A small group is already working on the chairman's presentation and they are hoping to tie in a theme to make the presentation creative and exciting. In terms of outreach, the team was invited to have a booth at the Royal Oaks' Science and Art Fair! This was a really fun event to attend and it was a great way to introduce FIRST Robotics to both kids and adults alike. Also, last Saturday the team was at Jerry's Grocery Store in Woodbury bagging groceries to raise funds for our trip to Iowa. This was also a really fun way for the whole team to pitch in and to raise awareness of FIRST to the local community. A big thank you goes out to all the shoppers who donated to our team, the members who participated in bagging groceries, and the parents who volunteered their time to the team.

As the remaining weeks shorten, the stress tends to grow. We may be stressed out about deadlines, but that won't hinder our excitement!
